The Neuroscience Graduate Program covers the broadest spectrum of neuroscience: cellular and molecular; clinical and health; cognitive; computational; neurotech; and systems and behavioural.
Our Program connects students with an internationally recognized faculty of researchers and scholars, working within a closely knit, resource-rich research environment. Division of Neurology McMaster Objectives: EMG 3 Blocks Even though all CanMEDS roles are important, emphasised in this rotation are: Medical Expert, Communicator, Collaborator and Manager Goals To acquire the manual skills required for performing nerve conduction studies and needle electromyographic testing To acquire the knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and clinical aspects of neuromuscular disease required in order to plan an appropriate electrodiagnostic consultation To learn how to interpret electrodiagnostic findings in the context of a clinical picture and communicate the relevance of the findings to patients and other health care professionals.
To perform EMG studies in their entirety from patient assessment, through study planning, execution and interpretation involving a range of conditions including focal neuropathies, plexopathies, radiculopathies, peripheral neuropathy, disorders of muscle, and anterior horn cell disorders. Medical Expert Acquire a comprehensive knowledge of peripheral nerve anatomy including roots, plexuses, and all clinically significant major motor and sensory nerve trunks and their branches Comprehensive knowledge of the relevant physiology of myelinated axons, motor and sensory, including but not limited to: Wallerian degeneration Conduction block Demyelination and remyelination Axonal regeneration Collateral sprouting Neuromuscular safety margin Muscle fiber membrane excitability Neuromuscular junction physiology Perform a history and physical examination directed at identifying evidence of nerve, muscle, and neuromuscular pathology Synthesize findings in various components of the neurological examination and history in order to determine appropriate anatomical localization s.
Focus is on neuromuscular problems, but possible role of CNS pathology must also be recognized. Recognize the indications, advantages, and limitations of EMG testing in the context of various nerve, muscle, anterior horn cell, and neuromuscular conditions Synthesize the above data into a testing protocol Implement the tests according the laboratory standards and protocols Interpret test results so as to answer questions posed by the referring physician Appreciate that the role of EMG is not only for lesion localization, but for assessment of severity, prognosis, and long term follow-up.

Medical Center to complete her general Neurology Residency and additional professional training, completing a Fellowship in Neurophysiology as well.
Through the Fellowship she received advanced training in Epilepsy and associated EEG testing protocols. She also is director of the Neurodiagnostics Department at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne and was instrumental in the department achieving status as the only Accredited EEG lab in the region. Andrea Haller is board certified in neurology and sleep medicine.
Haller attended medical school at the University of California, San Francisco. After completing her neurology residency, Dr.Joseph's Healthcare and the Hamilton Health Sciences.

Among the Hamilton Health Sciences Hospitals, the McMaster Children's Hospital provides pediatric urology care, the Juravinski Cancer Centre at the Henderson site has a urological oncology program, and trauma-related urological care is provided at the Hamilton General site through the Regional Trauma Centre. In addition to providing innovative clinical services, the division boasts the 14, square feet McMaster Institute of Urology, located in the Mary Grace wing at St.
Joseph's Healthcare in Hamilton. Designed to provide full sub-specialty urologic care to patients throughout Ontario, the multi-million dollar infrastructure is home to an interactive learning centre, its own urology library, research offices, a conference room and twelve exam rooms.
By streamlining the referral process and educating patients about sub-specialty care, the newly implemented education and referral model for patients and family physicians, guarantees patients a higher quality of care at a faster rate. Resources available to patients and physicians include access to web-based information, computer models, counseling and clinicians. The Division facilitates the education of 11 residents and 1 fellow, providing the optimum material for training residents in a comprehensive program complimented by availability of urologists and scientists to provide the infrastructure for research training as well as post training fellowships.
